AVID is an acronym that stands for Advancement via Individual Determination.  AVID is an in-school academic program that prepares students for college eligibility and success.

AVID tutors are undergraduate and graduate college students who mentor and tutor middle and high school students to help prepare them for college success. Hours can be arranged around your college class schedule.

SDUHSD middle and high schools are located from Del Mar and Carmel Valley in the southern area to Encinitas and La Costa in the northern area of coastal San Diego County, including San Dieguito Academy, Torrey Pines High School, La Costa Canyon High School and Canyon Crest Academy.

Being an AVID tutor is a great opportunity to work with students in small groups and to develop your own mentoring and leadership skills.

AVID tutors use their knowledge and experience to play a vital role in the success of the AVID elective class, where they facilitate student learning with rigorous curriculum. Tutors conduct study groups and encourage student participation and collaboration. Tutors create an engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. Tutors provide an active learning resource and serve as role models for students.

Tutors typically work 6 hours per day, 2-3 days a week.
