Job Summary

The School Bus Driver drives a school bus to transport children between home and school and/or on field trips and performs daily inspection and cleaning of assigned vehicles. Hours worked vary depending upon the assigned route and routes are subject to change three times each year.

 

Requirements / Qualifications

Requires current licensing as a school bus driver. Candidates must attach the required documents to their employment application. Prior to being eligible for employment, applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. As of January 6, 2020, this clearinghouse will be used to obtain drug and alcohol program violations for commercial driver's license holders prior to employment.

Required Documents (must be valid, not expired):

1) California Commercial Driver License, Class A or B, with P and S endorsements, with Restriction 29, and without Restriction 48.

2) California Special Driver Certificate, valid for school bus operation, and must not have Restrictions 2, 3, 4, and 5. If Restriction 6 is indicated, must present a First Aid Card from an approved provider list (obtain list from SDUHSD Human Resources Department).

3) Medical Examiner's Certificate with a valid date.

4) DMV Printout - California Driver's Record Report - must be dated within 30 days of application. Can be obtained at: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/customer-service/request-vehicle-or-driver-records/online-driver-record-request/

5) T-01 card

6) Adult CPR (must include "hands on" classroom training) and First Aid Certificates

The competitive basis for this recruitment is established as dual certification: candidates who meet certification requirements are placed on an eligibility list in order of overall exam score. The list is used to fill current and future vacancies for six months.
 
Veterans may be eligible for preference points on examinations. Please attach a copy of your DD214 to your application.
 
Employment with San Dieguito Union High School District is contingent upon successful completion of post-offer background check, fingerprinting, physical exam including tuberculosis, drug and alcohol screening, and an Oath of Allegiance. The District will conduct a query with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse to check for drug and alcohol violations.
 
Employees in positions which require a commercial driver's license are subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing as well as an annual employer query of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
 
The probationary period for a new or promotional employee is six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer.
